GERETSREID – German specialist Pulcra Chemicals has included microcapsules into its existing range of odour-neutralising formulations to improve the durability of these active ingredients for leather, in products such as car interiors, apparel and footwear.

Unpleasant odours associated with leather are a familiar problem to consumers and can stem from a variety of sources such as protein degradation that produces foul smells associated with medium-chain amines. In addition, decomposing fats or sugars can emit pungent odours attributed to aldehydes and ketones, whereas toasted notes can develop during drying, whether of the leather itself or powder products like tanning agents or dyes.
