BÖNNIGHEIM – Textile certifications and labels authority Hohenstein has launched a new standardised test that combines analyses of textile fibre release with data on biodegradability and ecotoxicity.

Working with project partners Trigema, Freudenberg, DBL ITEX and Paradies, Hohenstein says the new test method – DIN SPEC 4872 – will detect and classify multiple environmental effects of both natural and synthetic fibre release during washing.

It’s claimed that DIN SPEC 4872 shows how many fibres are released during textile laundering, how well these fibres degrade in wastewater and how harmful the fibre residues are to the environment.
