WASHINGTON DC - The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) trade body is ramping up its call for the US to allow brands to replace lengthy care labels with digital QR codes to share product and sustainability information with consumers and recyclers.
AAFA, which represents more than 1,000 brands, retailers and manufacturers, says digital technology would modernise outdated federal regulations, give consumers easy access to more information, and help the industry meet its sustainability goals.
It has produced a video explaining its case, which says: "Under current law, dating back to the 1960s, clothing companies are required to produce around 5.7 million miles of label tape each year. This is equivalent to 228 times around the Earth or 12 round trips to the moon!"
