SOUTHAMPTON – The Smart Electronic Materials and Systems (SEMS) research group at the University of Southampton has been awarded £600,000 by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to support the development of e-textiles for those suffering with arthritis.

The three-year fellowship, which will be led by Dr Kai Yang; a principal research fellow at the institute, will focus on the integration of printed electrodes within functional fabrics used to combat arthritis by delivering small electrical currents which trigger the release of the body’s natural endorphins to ease pain.
