ZURICH – Swiss traceability solutions provider Haelixa has linked up with Australia's The Woolmark Company (TWC) and Italian wool mill Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC) to successfully track Australian wool from sheep to final fabric by using DNA.
The project was launched in line with the strategy of TWC, which is funded by Australian woolgrowers, for traceability to maintain credibility of the sustainability of Australian wool.
In December 2021, Haelixa marked wool fibres with its DNA tracing solution. This involved the application of a single DNA marker to greasy wool and a second to scoured wool. The DNA markers stay embedded in the product, enabling the traceability of greasy and scoured wool up to greige fabric and finished fabric, respectively.
