BRUSSELS – For the first time, EU trade in textiles and clothing exceeded €200 billion but a European textile industry body remains concerned that Europe’s textile trade deficit has also increased nearly 50% to €70 billion due largely to imports from China and Bangladesh.
It says there’s a need to strengthen the EU’s export performance to rebalance its trade relations especially when it comes to technical textiles and high-end fashion where Europe is a leader.
